Information on Speaker:
The Hunt Magazine- Feature Article in September, 2007, By Lynn Williams:
Elusive memories. Ray Olmholt
can help capture them before it's too late.
"Vikings Never Die."
This was, in any case, Ray E.
Olmholt's theory. Like his Norse ancestors he was a conqueror; as an engineer,
inventor and entrepreneur he had built a successful business designing and
manufacturing floors for sports facilities. He held four dozen patents
worldwide. In midlife, he had created a second career for himself as a
litigation consultant to law firms and insurance companies. He had an uncanny
ability to make money. And he was the possessor of what he calls now "a show-off
kind of memory."
"When I was 60, I thought I would
live another 200 years," he offers with a laugh. At that age, everything
changed. While visiting his children in San Francisco in 1990, he suffered a
brain aneurism, and nearly died. As a consequence, both his steel-trap memory
and his sense of personal invulnerability were badly damaged. Shortly
thereafter, his marriage dissolved. The whole experience altered his life... but
in ways he did not necessarily expect.
"A near-death experience is a
phenomenal asset," he says now. "It was the best thing that ever happened to me.
The most painful, but the best." Continued... |
